Sgt A.L. Simpkin, CD

    After 30 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Sergeant Angela Simpkin, CD, will retire on 11 November 2022. Anecdotes or well wishes may be sent to LCol K.L. Harvey at KELLY.HARVEY@forces.gc.ca.


    Sgt Simpkin commenced her career in June 1992 as a radio teletype operator in the Army Reserve unit 722 Communications Squadron. After six years as a reservist, she transferred components into the Regular Force in April 1998 and was posted to 1 Canadian Division Headquarters and Signal Regiment (now the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment) in Kingston, Ontario. While at the CFJSR, Ange completed three deployments – 2000 OP PALLADIUM in Banja Luka, BiH, 2002 OP APOLLO in Tampa Bay, USA, and 2003 OP ATHENA in Kabul, AFG.

    Sgt Simpkin was posted to Ottawa in July 2005 and had postings to CFJIC, DGIMO, and 764 Comms Sqn prior to accompanying her husband to Naples, Italy in 2009, where she worked at the Allied Command Operations Organization South until July 2012. On completion of their OutCAN posting, Ange returned to Ottawa to transfer to her current occupation, Geomatics Technician. With her training at Algonquin College completed, Sgt Simpkin was posted to CJOC HQ in June 2014 for a four-year posting, which she considers the highlight of her career. She then returned to Algonquin College to instruct the Geomatics Technician course, where she finished her career.

    Sgt Simpkin will remain in the Ottawa area with her family. A small retirement gathering is planned for the end of November to celebrate Ange’s contributions to the Canadian Armed Forces.
