Richard “Rick” Labiuk

We regret to advise of the death of Richard “Rick” Labiuk of Fort Macleod AB, suddenly on 26 December 2021 at the age of 77 years.
Richard joined the Canadian Armed Forces with the 10th Intake of the Sapper Apprentice Program in 1961 at the age of 16. After completing his high school academic education and his basic Field Engineer and Carpenter training at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC, Richard then proceeded onto a full career of 28 years of service with the Canadian Military Engineers in Canada, Germany, and on deployments. Rick’s first posting was to 2 Field Squadron in Camp Gagetown NB in 1963, followed by a deployment on United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) peacekeeping duties in Egypt. Subsequent postings included the Construction Engineering Section in Calgary AB, 1 Airborne Field Squadron with the Airborne Regiment in Edmonton ( 1969/73), and 1 Construction Engineering Unit (1973-76) with tasks that included Canadian Forces Station Alert NU, and Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay. After his wife Robin retired from the Canadian Armed Forces, they lived in Fort Macleod for the past 20 years.
