On Sunday the 24th April 2005, approximately 87 years after Lt.-Col. C. N. Mitchell won his Victoria Cross during WWI, Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack Historical Society has unveiled a bronze plaque in his honour, commemorating both his VC and his leadership in constructing the All Sappers Memorial. 

The ceremony took place at the Vedder Crossing, All Sappers Memorial during the 31st Annual Retired Sappers Reunion weekend.

Attending as Guest of Honour was MGen John E. Woods, Col Comdt of the CME Branch. Also in the guest seats were Mayor Clint Hames, the Commanding Officer Area Support Unit (Chilliwack) Major Angelo Battiston, Mr. Ron Denman who is the Director of the Chilliwack Museum and Mr. Peter Eligh, a great grand nephew, representing the Mitchell Family.
