    • MWO/Adjum S.E. Delamere, MSM, CD

After more than 31 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers Branch, MWO Shaun Delamere, MSM, CD, will retire on 25 May 2022. Anecdotes and retirement wishes may be sent to Capt S.M. Peregoodoff at Steven.Peregoodoff@forces.gc.ca.

Early in 1987, looking to follow in his father’s military footsteps and fund his university education, Shaun decided to join the Primary Reserve in his hometown of Winnipeg. When entering the front doors of Minto Armoury, fortunately Shaun turned right at the parade square and was recruited by the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. A few highlights of Shaun’s time in the Militia were shooting heavy weapons prior to militia-bullet cutbacks, instructing on numerous courses while attached to the training company, a tour to Cyprus with 1 RCHA, and meeting his wife, Michelle. Work and family commitments obliged Shaun to release from the CAF in 2001.

In 2002, Shaun had the urge to rejoin the CAF but this time as a Construction Engineer. Following a lengthy recruiting and PLAR process, Shaun accepted an offer as a Direct Entry in 2004. Shaun was initially posted to 22 Wing in North Bay, where he had the opportunity to work in the Underground Complex and then transition to the Aboveground Complex. While there, Shaun was sent on a tour to the top of the world, CFS Alert, as the B Plumb O. After North Bay, Shaun was posted to Cold Lake. Positions that Shaun held included Heating Supervisor, Contracts Inspector, Plumbing & Heating Shop Supervisor, and Construction Maintenance Team Leader. In 2009, Shaun deployed to Sperwhan Ghar in Afghanistan as a member the Tactical Infrastructure Team. His next posting was to Winnipeg, home of the current Grey Cup Champions, for a short stop as the Mechanical Shop Supervisor and a year-long second language course. Having obtained his profile, Shaun was sent to Calgary as OC RPOU Calgary to support Reserve infrastructure. This position included the responsibilities of project and contract management, facility maintenance management, and planning. A trip to Latvia was an excellent final deployment. In 2019, Shaun was posted to RPOU(W) Det Suffield as the Sergeant Major and Contracts Officer. Suffield was a unique experience with a skilled team, balancing the needs of multiple, competing stakeholders.

MWO Delamere’s last day in rank is 25 May 2022. He is deeply appreciative of his family, Michelle, Christopher, and Samantha for their support throughout the years. Shaun would also like to express gratitude to all the colleagues with whom he has had the fortune to work over the years.
