After more than 25 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers, MWO Andy Ronalds, CD, will retire on 08 Jun 2021. Anecdotes, congratulatory messages, and pictures can be sent to MWO R.M. Fiander at Robert.Fiander2@forces.gc.ca.
MWO Ronalds was born in Bathurst, NB, and grew up in Port Alberni, BC. In November 1995, he joined the military in Nanaimo, BC, as a 041 Field Engineer. After Basic training in St-Jean, he continued with the Field Engineering QL3 course in Chilliwack, BC. Upon graduating in May 1996, he served in 22 Field Troop of 4ESR in Gagetown, deploying to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1999.
He was posted to LFAA TC in 2000, returned to 4ESR in 2002, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2003. He was posted to CFSME as an instructor from 2006 until 2011, when he was promoted to WO and posted to 1 CER in Edmonton. While in Edmonton, he held various positions at 1 CER, was posted to 1 CMBG HQ in 2016, returned to 1 CER as MWO in 2017, and deployed to Iraq in 2019. MWO Ronalds was posted to CMTC in Wainwright in 2020 and will retire as the OCT Engr Team SM.
The highlights for Andy while serving as an Engineer are the multiple deployments on domestic operations, serving Canadians in their time of need.
Andy, his wife Andrea, and his two sons will remain in the Edmonton area with the hope of returning to Vancouver Island in the near future. He will transition to a data analyst job in the private sector, contracting for NDHQ.
