Master Warrant Officer Ron Pennell will retire from the CF on 06 Feb 12 after 36 years of dedicated service to our country.
MWO Pennell enrolled in the Canadian Forces in Mar 1976. Following Basic Training and trades training he was posted to 22 Wg North Bay serving as an apprentice FF. Following his journeyman course and promotion to Cpl in 1980, he was posted to CFB Baden serving as an FF crewman for a four year tour. In 1984 he was posted to 19 Wg Comox, upon promotion to MCpl he was posted to Goose Bay in 1987 where he assisted as a member of the training cadre in the transformation of Transport Canada to DND Fire Services. In 1990 Ron was posted back to 22 Wg North Bay and upon promotion to Sgt served as a Deputy Platoon Chief, and Fire Chief in the underground complex for 22 NORAD. In 1993 he was then posted to CFFA as a course director for Apprentice, Journeyman and Supervisor courses. Upon promotion to WO in 1998 he conducted the duties of Training Operations Officer formally know as Flight Commander. In 1999 after as he refers to it, the best years of his career, was posted to 4 Wg Cold Lake as a Platoon Chief for 3 years and one as the A/DFC. Upon promotion to MWO in 2003 he was posted to 1 Cdn Air Div A4 CE 3‐2 Force Generation, after a very busy 2 years he was then posted to 4 AES (CES) as the ARFF Flight Commander in 2005. After a short time that same year was moved over to the Fire hall into the position of Deputy Fire Chief where he remained for four years. Due to the training and deployment of his Fire Chief he filled the position of WFC for over 15 months. His currently is filling the role of F.D. Training and Compliance Officer until his retirement date.
MWO Pennell and his wife Francine will retire in Cold Lake Alberta where Ron will actively be engaged in the population control of the White Tailed Deer and the Walleye.
