We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Laurie Sherwood Brown, CD (Ret’d) on 3 March 2023 at his home on Grand Manan NB at the age of 71 years.
Grand Manan was Laurie’s hometown and he completed Grand Manan High School there. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1969 and served with the Canadian Military Engineers as an Electrician for nearly 30 years. During his military career, his trade was re-named to Electrical Distribution Technician and he retired as a Master Warrant Officer in the Construction Engineering Superintendent master trade.
Laurie served in many places in Canada and around the world throughout his service career. Like many of our good leaders and tradesmen, Laurie was an instructor at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack. He also served in 1 Construction Engineering Unit, Canadian Forces Detachment St Margarets NB, and in Germany. Laurie also deployed to Canadian Forces Station Alert NU and on the United Nations Emergency Force II (UNEF II) in Egypt with the Camp el Gala Construction Engineering Section.
Following his retirement from the Canadian Forces, Laurie moved back to Grand Manan, where he established his own electrical contracting business.
Laurie was a member of the Grand Manan Rotary Club and served on the board for Grand Manan Housing for several years. As a proud member of the Grand Manan Legion, he spearheaded the banner project to honour veterans who loved their country as he did. Laurie also formed a special bond with members of the Community Life Church group.
Visitation will take place at the Community Life Church on 16 March from 2-4:00 PM and 7-9:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be held on 17 March at 12:30 PM at Community Life Church.
