    We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Jean-Paul Lavoie, CD (Ret’d) on 29 July 2023 at University Hospital Laval in Québec in his 75th year. Jean started his career as a Royal Canadian Engineer and then served a full career with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers – including a tour with the Canadian Military Engineers.

    Jean was born in St Marcelin QC. He enlisted as a Royal Canadian Engineer in 1964 with the 13th Intake Sapper Apprentices but transferred to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as a Craftsman Vehicle Technician in 1967. Upon completing his training in Kingston ON, he was posted to 4 Maintenance Coy in Montréal QC for a year before being posted to Germany with 1 R22R until 1971. Returning to Canada, Jean served with 3 R22eR in Québec (1971 - 1975) and then deployed with 73 Service Battalion to Ismailia in 1975. Jean returned to Canada with a posting to Canadian Forces Base Montréal from 1976 to 1978. Next was a posting to Valcartier with 5 Service Battalion that included a tour with the UNDOF Canlog Battalion in the Golan Heights (November 1979 - May 1980). After this deployment, Jean was posted to 5e Régiment du Génie de combat, Valcartier (1980 - 1983), followed by 202 Workshop Montréal Longue Pointe (1983 - 1987) and then returning to 5 Service Battalion in Valcartier (1987 -1989). Jean served his last posting with 2 R22R in Valcartier (1989 - 1993) before retiring from the Canadian Forces.

    The funeral will be on 16 September at the Cooperative funéraire les Deux Rive at the St-Charles cemetery [1420, Blvd. Wilfrid-Hamel Quebec]. More information will be advised when known.
