    Originally from Montmagny, Quebec, MWO Roy joined the Canadian Armed Forces on May 3rd 1978, he then completed recruit school at CFB St-Jean, QC. Upon completion of recruit school, he went to language training school for secondary language training at CFB St-Jean, QC. In August 1979 he was then posted to CFB Borden, Ont, at the Firefighter Academy for his trade course.
    In January 1980, posted to 3 Wing Bagotville, where he was employed as a Firefighter apprentice. In October 1982, he completed his Journeyman course. In December 1983, he got posted to HMCS Skeena. After numerous tours in the Atlantic, he moved to CFB Bagotville in January 1986. In July 1991, he was promoted to the rank of Master Corporal.

    In the same month, MWO Roy was once again posted to Halifax, NS, on board HMCS Algonquin. After a few deployments, MWO Roy made his way back to CFB Bagotville in July 1994. Promoted to the rank of Sergeant in July 1998, he held the position of Chief Fire Inspector until July of 1999 where he was then posted to CFB Trenton.

    Promoted to Warrant Officer in October 2001, he was then posted to 1 CEU Det. in Moncton NB, (now 1 ESU Kingston, Ont.) as a Fire Prevention Advisor until July 2004 when he got posted back to 3 Wing Bagotville as a Platoon Chief. Promoted to the rank of MWO in September 2004 he then became Deputy Fire Chief until Mai 2007 when he accepted a civilian position as a Prevention Officer with an Insurance Company.

    Just shy of 5 years in the civilian world, MWO Roy received a job offer to come back to CFB Bagotville as the Deputy Fire Chief, which is the position that he held to this day.

    MWO Roy was deployed a few times; Two NATO Tours onboard ships, one in March 85 and one in February 93. In July 2000, he went to Alert NU as SMOKEY and finally went to Kabul, Afghanistan in April 03.

    MWO Roy’s retirement will be effective May 22th 2017, where he will remain in the beautiful Saguenay region. Yvon once again accepted a job with an Insurance Company as a Disaster Prevention Officer.

    Yvon and his wife, Christine Gagnon, have been married for over 35 years. They have 3 children, Nicolas, who is a Reservist Firefighter with the Canadian Armed Forces, their daughter Valérie and their youngest son Alexandre.
