We regret to advise of the death of Firefighter Master Seaman Franklin “Frank” Alexander Stoddart (Ret’d), peacefully in Durham ON, at Rockwood Terrace on 23 May 2023 at the age of 75 years.

Frank was born in Markdale ON and attended Markdale Public School and Centre Grey District High School before enrolling in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1964 at the age of 17 years. Some of Franks’s postings during his career as a Firefighter included HMCS Shearwater, HMCS Bonaventure and RCAF Station Borden. His primary location was at HMCS Shearwater at Dartmouth NS where he served on HMCS Bonaventure.

Frank retired from the Canadian Forces in 1974 and continued his firefighting career in Flesherton ON. He concluded his 30+ years of service as a firefighter as Deputy Fire Chief at the Flesherton Station.

Frank then worked for the Bluewater District School Board for over 30 years where he retired in 2012 as head custodian at Grey Highlands Secondary School. In retirement, Frank trained and ran three half-marathons. He enjoyed snowshoeing, walking his dog, golfing and attending local standardbred races.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton on Tuesday, 30 May 2023 from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. A private family interment will take place at Flesherton Cemetery. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Lung Association or Sick Kids would be greatly appreciated.
