    After more than 36 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers, MGen Mark Misener, OMM, MSM, CD, will retire on 27 December 2023. A DwD ceremony will be held on 25 August 2023 from 13:00 hrs at the Senior Staff Mess at RMC Kingston. Please send anecdotes and well-wishes to LCol M.R.G.     Major General Mark Misener was commissioned into the Canadian Armed Forces in 1987, attended Royal Roads Military College (RRMC) Victoria, and graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Kingston in 1991 with a Mechanical Engineering degree.

    He has served numerous tours with and commanded 2 Combat Engineer Regiment (Petawawa, Ontario, Somalia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan). Major General Misener also served with 4 Engineer Support Regiment (Gagetown, New Brunswick, Montreal ice storm, Winnipeg floods), deployed to Cambodia as a Technical Advisor to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre, commanded Task Force Kandahar Engineer Regiment in
    Afghanistan and deployed once again to southern Afghanistan with the United States Army. Between regimental postings Major General Misener has instructed at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering, coordinated Realty Asset Policy as a member of Assistant Deputy Minister (Infrastructure and Environment), planned and supported deployed operations as the Joint Engineer in Canadian Expeditionary Force Command
    (now CJOC), and led a team responsible for developing Soldier Systems at Canadian Army Headquarters Director Land Requirements.

    In addition to his undergraduate degree, Major General Misener has completed the Canadian Land Forces Staff College course, attended the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in Kingston and the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto. He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a Master in Business Administration and attended National Defense University’s War College in Washington, D.C. where he earned a Master of Science in National Security Strategy.

    Major General Misener served with the United States Army as a member of 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas as Assistant Chief of Staff G5 Plans followed by Division Chief of Staff. He also commanded the Canadian Army Enablers Group, the 4th Canadian Division Support Group
    and, in July 2017, was designated commander of the Joint Personnel Support Unit. On 10 December 2018, the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group was stood up with Brigadier General Misener becoming the formation’s first commander and also Director General Military Transition.

    In 2020, Major-General Misener assumed command of the 1st Canadian Division Headquarters in Kingston, ON.
