    After more than 23 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces,  the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Engineers, and the Royal Canadian Health Services. MCpl Jean-François Grenier, CD, will retire on 01 July 2021. Due to the current situation, a Depart with Dignity ceremony will be planned once restrictions have been lifted. Congratulatory messages, anecdotes and best wishes can be sent to Sgt C.J.R.     Jean-François was born on 13 January 1970 in Quebec City. He joined the Regular Forces of the Canadian Armed Forces on 20 April 1998 as an electrician in the Royal Canadian Navy.

    During his military career, he opted for three voluntary occupational transfers: to Medical Tech in 2004, to Preventive Medicine Tech in 2007, and to his current trade of Geomatics Technician in 2012.

    MCpl Grenier has been posted to numerous units and bases: CFB Victoria servicing HMCS OTTAWA from 1998 to 2003, Garrison Petawawa with the 2 Field Ambulance from 2004 to 2007, 2 Canadian Support Base Valcartier with the 5 Field Ambulance from 2007 to 2012, the National Capital Region with the Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE) from 2012 to 2017, and finally 2 Canadian Support Base Valcartier with the 5 Combat Engineer Regiment (5RGC) from 2017 to present.

    MCpl Grenier served in four overseas deployments: OP APPOLO (Persian Gulf) in 2002, OP STRUCTURE (Sri Lanka) in 2005, OP ATHENA (Afghanistan) in 2009, and OP HESTIA (Haiti) in 2010. In addition, he participated in OP LOTUS, a domestic operation during the floods in StJean-Sur-Richelieu in 2011.

    In the course of his career, he completed the following courses with honours: Elementary Land Leadership Qualification, Navy Electrician QL5, Medical Technician, Preventive Medicine Technician, Geomatics Technician, Surveyor, and Preventive Medicine Supervisor QL6A.
