After 8 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers Branch, MCpl Steve Mongrain will release on 01 May 2022. Anecdotes and retirement wishes may be sent to WO F. Lemire at Francis.Lemire2@forces.gc.ca.
MCpl Mongrain joined the CAF as a Combat Engineer in 2013 at the age of 28 years old. After completing Basic Military Qualification and the Combat Engineer course, he was posted to 5 RGC.
MCpl Mongrain spent eight years in the field troops where he occupied various positions. He participated in numerous exercises and was deployed twice during his service.
As a newly promoted Cpl, his first deployment was to Poland in 2016 as a section member on OP REASSURANCE. He received a commendation from the Task Force Commander for supporting various entities of the Rotation and for supporting fellow members through the secondary tasks assigned to him.
As a MCpl, his second deployment was to Iraq in 2019 as part of the Instructor Section on OP IMPACT. He received the Commander’s Coin in recognition of his work, including the secondary tasks he accomplished.
MCpl Mongrain will release from the CAF next month to pursue personal and professional interests such as his bicycle repair business and caring for his spouse, Evelyne, and their two children, Frédérick and Anne-Charlotte, in the Quebec City region.
