We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal Shirley Lynda Ellen Brink of Langdon AB, peacefully on 13 February 2022 at the age of 55 years. Shirley was a member of 33 Engineer Squadron of 41 Combat Engineer Regiment in Calgary AB.
Born in Berwyn AB, Shirley was the youngest of ten children. As a youth, she was involved in 4-H and public speaking. She would later join Toast Masters. Her mother was one of her leaders and was her biggest supporter. Her father taught her strength and perseverance. At an early age, he taught Shirley about the land, herbs, and natural healing. She completed courses in Herbology, Reflexology, Massage Therapy, and Essential Oils that allowed her to spend countless days helping others with what she had learned.Shirley and her daughter Michaela also enjoyed working with the Brain Injury Society for more than fifteen years, volunteering her time and sharing her knowledge.
Adventure came calling as soon as Shirley finished high school and saw her move to Yellowknife for two years. From Yellowknife, she moved to Calgary. She served well in various church callings and completed a mission to Tennessee and Kentucky. Following in the footsteps of her father and sister, Shirley joined the Canadian Forces in 2011 at the age of 45 as a member of 33 Engineer Squadron of 41 Combat Engineer Regiment in Calgary AB. There she discovered an entire new "family." The army gave her the opportunity to spend time in locations, such as Wainwright, Borden, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Yukon, Chilliwack, and South Dakota.Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (7017 California Blvd NE Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, 4 May 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join the service streamed live on the day of the service.
