    We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal Jason “Jay” Gerald Crann , CD (Ret’d) of Sherwood Park AB on 23 June  2022  at the age of 44 years after a battle with cancer. 

    Originally from Newfoundland, Jason enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Infantryman with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. He served with the 1st Battalion PPCLI in many domestic operations across Canada, in the United States and he deployed to Bosnia. During this time, Jason received the Province of Alberta Centennial Medal (2005).

    Jason remustered to Construction Technician and began training in 2006 at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering at the Canadian Forces Base in Gagetown NB. Upon completion of this training he was posted to 4 Construction Engineering Squadron in 4 Wing Cold Lake AB. In 2011 Jason deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team. Jason was posted back to Edmonton in 2012 where he completed his military career with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment.

    In his retirement from the Canadian Forces, Jason started his own construction company and expanded his hobby of woodworking. The outdoors was Jay’s element and his greatest joys were found outside, as he enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and golf.

    A Celebration of Jay’s Life will be held on Wednesday, 13 July 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Edmonton Garrison Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess [Building 210 Ortona Road, Canadian Forces Base, Edmonton]. Jason’s life will also be remembered and celebrated in Newfoundland on Saturday, 30 July 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church [110 Ashford Drive, Mount Pearl NL].

    Memorial donations may be made to Rob Cosman’s Purple Heart Project or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
