Glenn Petrie joined the CF on 22 July 1993 at CFB Chilliwack with 6 Field Engineer Squadron. Upon completion of his basic training in the reserves at CFB Shilo MB, he remained with 6 Field Engineer Squadron until 08 Feb 1998, attaining the rank of Corporal.
Cpl Petrie Component Transferred to the Regular Force and was reduced in rank to Sapper on 08 Feb 1998. He and was posted to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in Edmonton AB and employed in 11 Field Squadron. He was deployed to Kosovo with the Engineer Construction Team in May 1999 until Dec 1999 as the Troop Commander’s driver. Spr Petrie was promoted to Cpl in April 2000 and posted in 15 Support Squadron with Resources Troop and Water Supply Troop. Cpl Petrie deployed to Afghanistan in Feb 2006 until Aug 2006 as Water Supply and Ammo NCO.
He attended the PLQ course in June 2007 at CFB Shilo MB and was promoted to MCpl in January 2008. On completion of PLQ, he was served in Armoured Troop and was deployed to Afghanistan for the second time in September 2008 until April 2009 as an Armoured Detachment Commander. In July 2010, MCpl Petrie was posted to Roads & Grounds, ASU Edmonton After four years at Roads & Grounds, he was posted back to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. While at 1 CER, he served in 18 Admin Squadron in Transport Section in the Maintenance Bay Tool Crib and squadron stores. His last posting was in the 1 Combat Engineer Regimental Library.
During his time in the CAF, he also deployed on domestic operations including fires in Red Water AB, Salmon Arm BC and Kelowna BC. He has completed four Mountain Man competitions as well as participating four times in “Loops for the Troops" runs, representing and supporting the Regiment as well as the Brigade.
MCpl Petrie has received the Kosovo medal. Canadian Peacekeeping medal, Southwest Asia Service medal - Afghanistan, General Campaign Star — Afghanistan Commander in Chief Commendation and the Canadian Forces Decoration with clasp.MCpl Petrie will be retiring from the CF with 25 years and l0 months service and will remain in the Edmonton area with his wife Karen. son Brett and stepson Kevyn. After a short six-month break he plans on finding part time employment to continue in a semi-retired lifestyle and enjoy working on his hobby, restoring a 1964 Oldsmobile 2-door coupe.
