We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal Donald House (Ret’d) of Sydney NS, suddenly at home on 28 March 2023 at the age of 59 years.

Donald was born in Sydney NS.  He joined the Royal Canadian Air Cadets in 1976 and enrolled in the Reserve Force with 45^th Field Squadron in Sydney in 1981. He then made a component transfer to the Regular Force in 1983 and joined 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in Chilliwack BC. Donald served next with 4 Combat Engineer Regiment in Lahr, Germany and returned to 1 CER  when he came back to Canada. At 1 CER he was awarded Sapper of the Year. On a historical note, during Exercise RENDEZVOUS 89 in Wainwright, Don was with the Giant Viper Section that fired the very last mine-clearing line charge in Canada.

Donald was posted to the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering with Mine Warfare and Demolitions cell in 1989. While with CFSME he received the CFSME Commandant's Commendation in 1990 for his brave actions tin protecting his students from a bear. Donald was medically released from the Canadian Forces in 1992 after a vehicle accident in Chilliwack in 1990.
