    After more than 12 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the Canadian Military Engineer Branch and the National Defence Fire Service, MCpl Daniel Labarre, CD(bio attached), will retire 15 Sept 2016. A Depart with Dignity Ceremony will take place at Crabby Joe’s in Angus at 1430 on 16 Sep 2016. Anecdotes may be sent to the OPI by e-mail.

    MCpl Labarre joined the Canadian Forces on the 29th of July 2004 as a Firefighter where upon completion of basic training in CFB St. Jean in 2004, went on to complete his Firefighter QL 3 level trade course in CFB Borden. His first posting was to 3 Wing Bagotville, 29 April 2005 and his time there was full of medical emergencies, sports, outdoor activities, and his first deployment to Op Athena, Kandahar, Afghanistan from 31 July 2007 to 17 February 2008. He was then posted to CJIRU in July 2008 and served with them for 2 years until he returned to the fire hall in July 2010. He was then promoted to his current rank of MCpl in March 2012 and posted to CFFCA in July 2012 where he taught many students and various courses until his release date of 15 September 2016.

    MCpl Labarre will continue to live and volunteer in the area where he hopes to establish roots within the community and start a wonderful life with his girlfriend Carmela as she starts her career as a Kindergarten teacher within the York Region School Board. He thanks everyone who had an impact on his career and the many people whom he worked with and built friendships with, you will be missed but never forgotten.
