    After more than 25 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Maj Rodney Normore, CD, will retire on 03 March 2024. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to MWO R.K. MacNeil at Russell.MacNeil@forces.gc.ca.


    Rod was born in 1979 on Bell Island, NL. He completed high school in 1997 and college in 1998. Rod enlisted in the Canadian Armed forces in January 1999 as a Combat Engineer.

    Rod completed basic training in St-Jean, QC. He completed trades training in October 1999 and was posted to 4 Engineer Support Regiment, CFB Gagetown. He was promoted to Corporal in January 2003.

    In February 2005, Rod was accepted into the University Training Plan for Non-Commissioned Members as an Engineer Officer. Promoted to Officer Cadet in April 2005, he completed initial officer training before beginning his degree at the University of New Brunswick in September of that year. In December 2008, he transferred from the Army to the Air Force to become a Construction Engineer Officer.

    Rod graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in May 2009. Later that month, he was commissioned to the rank of Second Lieutenant. In March 2011, he completed officer training and was promoted to Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain in February 2012 and Major in July 2016.

    Since the completion of officer training in March 2011, Rod has been employed as: Officer Commanding, 91 Construction Engineering Flight; Officer Commanding, Real Property Operations Detachment Gander (formerly known as Wing Construction Engineering); Officer Commanding, 14 Mission Support Squadron – Construction Engineers; Officer Commanding, Construction Engineering Training Squadron, CFSME; Senior Instruction, Construction Engineering and Management Squadron, CFSME; and Plans Officer, Real Property Operations Unit-Atlantic.

    Rod has deployed on three international operations: Operation ECLIPSE, United Nations Mission to Eritrea and Ethiopia; Operation ATHENA, Kabul Afghanistan; and Operation ATTENTION, Kabul Afghanistan.

    Rod completed Joint Command and Staff Program – Distance Learning in June 2021. He has been a Professional Engineer registered in New Brunswick since March 2019. Rod was awarded a Commanders Commendation from Canada Command for leadership on a construction project in Resolute, NU, during the summer of 2011.

    Rod and his wife, Kim, will relocate to Newfoundland, where they look forward to taking advantage of the many opportunities to be found there.
