Maj Ron Porter, CD
-
Major Ron Porter enrolled in the CF on 4 October 1984 as a Sapper with the Combat Engineers and he will officially complete his military career on 31 May 2011.
Upon completion of Basic Training in Cornwallis and subsequent trades training in Chilliwack, he was posted to 22 Fd Sqn (now 4 ESR) at CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick. From there, postings to 4 CER in Lahr, Germany, 2 CER in Petawawa and the Joint Support Group Headquarters (JSG HQ) in Kingston would round out the bulk of his geographic postings.
In 2002, Ron commissioned from the ranks. As a Lieutenant, he began his officer portfolio as the acting Operations Officer (2 CER) and 2IC of a Planning Team within the JSG HQ J5 Branch, being exposed to some of the more unique and rewarding challenges that he has experienced over his career. Promoted to Captain, he was posted back to Petawawa to learn and work within the infrastructure stream at Base Construction Engineers (BCE). Promoted to Major in June 2009, Ron became the BCEO and has stalwartly commanded BCE since that time through high tempo periods of demanding infrastructure and base service pressures in support of 2 CMBG and lodger units.
International operations included Germany, the Former Republic of Yugoslavia (three tours), Kosovo, Honduras and Afghanistan. Domestic operational highlights included Support to the Winnipeg Floods in Manitoba and the Ice Storm in Ontario.
On 27 April 2011, Major Ron Porter will be transitioning from a soldier back to civilian life, enthusiastically remaining as a public servant with the Defence Team in Petawawa to continue his support to the CF. Ron, his wife Janet and their two sons, Geoff and Jarod are looking forward to remaining in the area and tackling whatever new challenges lay ahead.
Well wishes and anecdotes for Ron can be sent to Lieutenant Eric Landevag, Base Assistant Adjutant at Landevag Lt ES@CFB/ASU Petawawa@Petawawa.
