Maj P.M. Hucal, CD

    After more than 29 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers Branch, Maj Peter Hucal, CD, retired on 20 July 2022. Anecdotes and retirement wishes may be sent directly to Maj P.M. Hucal at Peter.Hucal@forces.gc.ca.


    In February 1993, Peter joined the Naval Reserve unit HMCS Carlton and then transferred to HMCS Malahat in 1995. As a Boatswain, he served on HMCS Porte Quebec, HMCS Porte De La Reine, HMCS Saskatoon, and twice on HMCS Nanaimo.

    In 2002, Peter transferred to the Regular Force as a Naval Electronics Technician (Tactical - Radars), serving on HMCS Regina twice and on HMCS Edmonton.

    In 2008, Maj Hucal transferred to the RCAF and received his Commission as a Construction Engineering Officer (CEO). Following CEO training in 2011, he was posted to Base Construction Engineering at CFB Esquimalt as the Customer Service Officer and then as the Pacific Naval Construction Troop Commander. In 2013, he was promoted to Captain and posted to A4 Construction Engineering (A4 CE) at 1 Canadian Air Division in Winnipeg, MB, where he managed the RCAF infrastructure budget and infrastructure issues.

    In 2016, Maj Hucal was posted to Real Property Operations Detachment Winnipeg as the Requirements Officer. The following year, he was promoted to Major and posted back to A4 CE as the Engineering Support Officer. He conducted an operational recce in support of Baltic Air Policing in Lithuania under Op REASSURANCE in 2014 and another in support of Op PRESENCE in Africa in 2018. He deployed to Erbil, Iraq, in the summer of 2018 as the Officer Commanding of Camp Érable. Upon his return, he assumed the position of A4 CE Operations Officer.

    In 2021, Maj Hucal was posted to Real Property Operations Unit (Pacific) in Esquimalt, BC, as the Operations Officer.

    Peter and his family will remain in Victoria, where he has transitioned to the Public Service as the Properties Officer for Real Property Operations Section Esquimalt.
