We regret to advise of the death of Major Norman Henderson, CD (Ret'd) on 8 May 2014 in Vancouver, BC.
Norm served a full career with the Royal Canadian Engineers after graduating from the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering with No 3 Young Officer's Course in 1951. Career highlights include service during the Korean War with 23rd Field Squadron Sqn RCE, a tour with the Northwest Highway System (Alaskan Highway), United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF I) in Egypt, Commanding Officer of 1 Airborne Field Troop (1955 -56), Mobile Command HQ and Base Operations Officer, Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack.
Norman attended Vancouver Technical College, University of British Columbia (Applied Science, Civil Engineering) and earned a Master of Business Administration at Simon Fraser University. Following his service in the Canadian Forces, he became Executive Director of the Western Canada Summer Games. Later he was a Civil Engineer with BC Gas until his retirement in 1988. He also served as President of the Professional Engineers Association of BC and “Korea Veterans of Canada” ( KVA ) Unit 49, North Vancouver.
Norm will be laid to rest at the West Vancouver Memorial Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at St. Christopher's, 1068 Inglewood Avenue, West Vancouver at 3:00 pm Thursday, 15 May 2014. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
