    After more than 42 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers Branch, Maj Denis Faulkner, CD, will retire 13 May 2022. At the member’s request, a private Depart with Dignity ceremony will take place at the Mess of 35 Combat Engineer Regiment, 2630 boulevard Hochelaga, Québec, QC, on a date to be determined due health restrictions related to COVID 19.  Attendance will be by invitation only.     Major Faulkner joined the Canadian Forces as a sapper with the 3 Field Engineer Regiment in Montréal on 29 January 1980. He transferred to the Regular Forces with the Youth Training and Employment Program and was posted to 5 CER. He remustered to a Field Engineer Equipment Operator in 1988. Within that trade, he acquired a wide range of experience through postings at CFB Suffield, 5 CER, Base Valcartier CE - Roads & Ground, and CFSME.

    He commissioned to captain in November 2005. In this rank, he served as Sqn 2I/C, Garrison Construction Engineer Officer in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and as 5 CER’s Adjutant.

    He transferred components to the Primary Reserve in 2013 with 35 CER. In that unit, he was promoted to major and filled the Ops O, OC 15 Sqn, OC Adm Sqn, and DCO positions.

    Major Faulkner served on three missions: with the UN in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1993, with NATO again in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1996, and with NATO in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in 2009-2010.

    He lives with his spouse, Marie-Lyne D’Amours, and has three sons; Simon-Olivier, Julien and Derick.
