Biography/Biographie of/de Maj Gerry Hnatiuk
Born in Montreal, Maj Hnatiuk joined Canadian Armed Forces in 1984. After completing his officer and engineer phase training in Chilliwack, he was posted to Moncton, then back to Chilliwack in 1 CER where he gained experience in many different positions.
He was then posted to 45 Field Engineer Squadron, a reserve combat engineer unit in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Always ready for new challenges, Gerry left the Atlantic Region to join the Land Force HQ in St-Hubert where he was served as J3-Collective training and as the Aide-de-Camp for the Comd of the Land Force among other positions.
Promoted to Major, he was assigned to Land Force Area Quebec (LFAQ) as Ops & Infra Engineer, then Area Engineer for one year. Eager for professional development, he returned to school to complete his Master in Urban Planning at the Université de Montréal. After completing his Masters, he was posted to Ottawa in the Land Force Reserve Restructure (LFRR) shop for 4 years, followed by a tour as the CMP Engineer. After somehow managing to spend all the CIP funds on CMP bases, most notably in Borden, he was sent back to ADM(IE) to impart his CIP knowledge to his colleagues. Gerry spent a few years in DGRP, after which time he finally moved for his last 2 years in CAF to the newly created RP Ops Gr as the J3 where his vast infra experience has contributed greatly to ADM(IE) transformation.
Maj Hnatiuk will retire in the Mont Tremblant region north of Montreal where he will spend the next year building the house of his dreams.
