    MAJOR CHRIS CAMBRIDGE WILL RETIRE FROM THE CF ON 3 JULY 2007 AFTER MORE THAN 30 YEARS OF SERVICE TO CANADA, THE CF AND THE ENGR BRANCH.

    MAJOR CAMBRIDGE ENROLLED IN 1977 AS A MILITARY MUSICIAN AND HAD TOURS IN ESQUIMALT, HALIFAX AND THEN ESQUIMALT AGAIN BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE AIR COMMAND BAND IN 1987 AS A CLARINETTIST, BACK-UP VOCALIST AND DRUM MAJOR. DURING ALL THAT TIME HE PARTICIPATED IN NUMEROUS CANADIAN AND INTERNATIONAL FORUMS INCLUDING TATOOS, ROYAL VISITS AND THE 1986 EXPO IN VANCOUVER. LOOKING FOR A NEW CHALLENGE, (THEN) SERGEANT CAMBRIDGE SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED IN 1989 TO ATTEND ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE IN KINGSTON AS AN OFFICER CADET MILITARY (AIR) ENGINEER STUDENT. HE SUBSEQUENTLY GRADUATED WITH HONOURS IN 1993 AS A CIVIL ENGINEER AND AFTER FOLLOW-ON TRAINING IN CHILLIWACK WAS POSTED TO CF STATION WAINWRIGHT AS THE ENGINEERING/REQUIREMENTS OFFICER. HE WAS PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN IN 1996 AS HE WAS COMPLETING HIS BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN HISTORY AND PSYCHOLOGY THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA . NOT CONTENT TO SIT IDLE, HE THEN WENT ON TO RETURN TO RMC AS A MASTERS STUDENT IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING, CONDUCTION RESEARCH ON RESIDUAL STRENGTH OF DAMAGED BEAM MEMBERS IN BRIDGES. HE WAS THEN SELECTED TO STAY AT RMC AS AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND, DURING HIS THREE YEARS IN THAT POSITION, ALSO COMPLETED A SECOND MASTERS DEGREE IN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING. CAPT CAMBRIDGE WAS THEN POSTED TO 4 AIRFIELD ENGINEERING SQUADRON IN COLD LAKE AS THE OPERATIONS OFFICER AND TASKED WITH THE TRAINING OF ENGINEERS FOR CAMP CONSTRUCTION AND DEPLOYED OPERATIONS, DEPLOYING HIMSELF TO BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA AS THE TASK FORCE ENGINEER 2 TO BEGIN THE CLOSE OUT OF MANY CANADIAN INSTALLATIONS. IN 2004, HE WAS POSTED TO 17 WING WINNIPEG AS THE FACILITIES MANAGER AND WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR TO ASSUME THE DUTIES OF WING CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING OFFICER. HE SERVED IN THAT POSITION FOR A YEAR BEFORE MOVING OVER TO THE 1 CANADIAN AIR DIVISION HEADQUARTERS FORCE PROTECTION AND PROVOST MARSHALL SECTION AS THE FORCE PROTECTION ENGINEERING SPECIALIST. HE WILL START A NEW CIVILIAN CAREER WITH THE CITY OF FORT SASKATCHEWAN AS THE GENERAL MANAGER OF PLANNING AND ENGINEERING. A FAREWELL LUNCHEON WILL BE HELD ON 31 MAY, DATE AND LOCATION TO BE CONFIRMED.
