Lt Joseph Augustine Benoît “Ben” Brien (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant Joseph Augustine Benoît “Ben” Brien (Ret’d) at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peterborogh ON on 30 April 2012 in his 97th year.
Ben was a veteran of the Second World War. He served in the Royal Canadian Engineers for five years and served with the 5th Canadian Armoured Division in Italy and Holland. After the war, Ben studied law at McGill University but chose a career in business. He was recognized with a citizenship award for his ground-breaking work with the federal halfway house in Peterborough. He was instrumental in introducing Scott's Plains Recycling to the city which was one of the first cities in Ontario to use the famous blue box. He taught a number of business courses at Sir Sandford Fleming College until his retirement in 1980.
Ben will be cremated this week. Relatives and friends will gather Saturday 3 - 5 PM at the Women's Institute Hall in Mount Pleasant.
