Lt Donald “Don” Lachlan McCann (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant Donald “Don” Lachlan McCann (Ret’d) peacefully in Saskatoon, SK on 12 June 2012 at the age of 94.
Don was born in Ottawa, ON and raised in Capreol, ON. He attended Queen's University in Kingston, ON and graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining and Metallurgy Engineering. He also attended King's College in Halifax, NS where he began his military service in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve as an Engineer Officer (1941-1945), achieving the rank of Lieutenant by the end of the war. After demobilisation, Don followed a mining career throughout his entire working life, working in Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. From 1955-1965, he served in the Militia with 15th Field Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers in Thetford Mines, QC. During that time he was also a Civil Defence Officer. After his retirement from the Potash Company of America in 1980, Don attended the University of Saskatchewan's Department of Archaeology and was published in 1997 at the age of 80 years old. Don was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #362 in Saskatoon.
A celebration of life will be held on 21 July at 1:00 PM at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. Interment and reception to follow. Donations may be made to the St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon Renal Dialysis Unit or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #362. {gdMar2017dc} [zpi, zsp]
