Chief Warrant Officer Louis Myre, CD (Ret'd) was born in St-Jérôme, Québec. He completed high school in June 1976 and enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) a few months later, on September 15, 1976, in Montréal. After completing his Electrical Generating Systems technician course, he was transferred to Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Lac St-Denis in 1977. During this period, he made his first tour at CFS Alert in 1980. Sometime after he is back, a transfer takes him to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Bagotville. While in Bagotville, he gets married and have his first child. The young family moved to CFS Moisie in 1982. During his stay on the Côte Nord region, he participated in his first United Nations (UN) tour in the Golan Heights in 1985. Upon his return to Canada, he made a short transfer at CFB Borden, and then returning to Quebec at CFS Mont-Apica in 1987, a few months before deploying for his second tour at CFS Alert, the family expanded to a second child. After the closure of CFS Mont-Apica, he is selected for SFC Bermuda in 1990, from which his third child will be born. Returning to Canada at CFB Ottawa (Uplands) in 1993, he completed his second NU tour with Op Cavalier in Bosnia in 1994. He returned to CFB Chilliwack in 1996, before relocating the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering. (CFSME) at CFB Gagetown a year later. Then, he was transferred to Moncton in 2000 with 1 Construction Engineering Unit. He made another UN mission to Eritrea in 2000. In 2001, he decided to retire from the CAF, but re-enrolled in 2002.
The CAF return happened in CFB Goose Bay for a short time, then return with 1 Engineering Support Unit in Moncton in 2004. He returned to Ottawa again in 2006 as the Life Cycle Material Manager for the Canadian Forces for the Heavy Power Generators. And then, another return to CFSME in 2009 as Sergeant Major (SM) of the Construction Engineering Training Squadron. A very brief one-year return to CFB Bagotville in 2011. Subsequently, he was brought back to Ottawa in 2012 with the Assistant Deputy Minister (Materiel) with the Northern Warning System. Then for a few months, once again in the position of manager of the life cycle of the equipment in 2014. Promoted to his current rank, he is then transferred to Montréal in 2015, he becomes the last SM of the Headquarters (HQ) of the Engineering Service and the first HQ SM of the Real Property Operations Unit (Québec). In 2017, he returns to Ottawa for the last time with the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Director Air Personnel Strategy until his retirement on August 08, 2019, after more than 42 years and 36 days of loyal service.
CWO Myre and his lovely wife, Guylaine, will remain in the Gatineau area and will keep a close eye on their three grown-ups and three grandchildren in the family.
