Lance-Corporal Bartolacci landed on D-Day with the assaulting infantry. In St-Aubin-sur-Mer, the enemy had placed a steel rail across the road, thus blocking it for our tanks. Although this obstacle was fully covered by enemy small arms fire, Lance-Corporal Bartolacci dashed forward, under covering fire from our own troops, placed a charge and destroyed the obstacle. This act of gallantry enabled the tanks to move forward and assist the infantry in their advance.
