Serge Duplain joined the military in September 1969. He studied at military colleges in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Kinston and graduated with a Baccalaureat in Civil Engineer in June 1975. He started his military career as Air Navigator and was posted to Bagotville with 425 Voodoo Sqn. In 1976, he reclassified as military engineer. Following completion of the CHIMO Course in Chilliwack, he was posted in 1977 to 5 RGC Valcartier. In 1980, he moved to Rouyn-Noranda as Regular Support Staff in support to 9 EGC. He was then posted to St. Hubert in 1983 where he subsequently worked with the Base Engineer Section for 3 years and Engineers Land Forces HQ for 2 years. In 1988, he was posted as WCEO to Edmonton. After attending Staff College in Toronto in 1990-91, he was posted to Halifax at MARCOM HQ as SSO Env until 1994 and then to NDHQ Ottawa with DGE as Env Engr. In 1997, he moved to 1 CAD Winnipeg and worked as A4 AE Sp until 2002. In Dec 1998, he was deployed for a 4 months period to Macedonia in support to Op Guarantor. In 2002, he was posted back to NDHQ as EA ADM(IE) for two years and finally to Europe as Chief Engr HQ Sp Gp for JFC Brunssum, Netherlands from 2004 until retirement in early 2008. Following a successful competition, he started work in Mar 2008 as an Engineer NATO Civilian with NSPA, Luxembourg. He returned to Ottawa, Canada and retired in Dec 2013. He is married to Diane (Dugas) Duplain, they have two sons and two grand-children who are also living in Ottawa.
