After more than 30 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, LCol Delta Guerard, CD, retired on 24 March 2023. A DWD ceremony has been planned on 28 April 2023 (1130 – 1500) at the Sgt & WO’s Mess, 4 Elizabeth Drive, Ottawa. LCol Delta Guerard was born in Prince George, British Columbia and enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1992 as a Military Engineer, later renamed to Construction Engineers. She attended both Royal Roads Military College (Colwood, BC) and the Royal Military College of Canada (Kingston, ON), graduating in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering.
On completion of phase training at CFSME (Chilliwack, BC) in November 1997, she was posted to the Construction Engineering Section at CFB Borden as the Construction Troop Commander. In January 1998, she deployed with her troop in support of Op RECUPERATION providing assistance in the aftermath of the ice storm that hit Ontario and Quebec. She held various positions within the section before being posted to the Multinational Force and Observers, Sinai, Egypt (Op CALUMET) as the Force Project Engineering Officer from July 2001 to July 2002.
After her return to Canada, LCol Guerard returned to RMC to complete a Master of Applied Science (Environmental Engineering), graduating in August 2004. This was followed by a posting to 1 Canadian Air Division, Winnipeg, MB as an Environment Officer within A4 Construction Engineering. During this posting, she deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, working in CJEngr at ISAF HQ as the NATO Land Projects Officer from June to December 2007. On her promotion to Major in 2008 she was posted to 22 Wing North Bay as the Wing Logistics and Domestic Operations Officer, in charge of all Logistic and Construction Engineering personnel. In 2012, she was posted to the Expeditionary Readiness Centre, 2 Wing Bagotville as the Construction Engineering Officer supporting the training of RCAF units preparing to deploy. In 2015, she was posted to the RCAF Air Warfare Centre, 8 Wing Trenton as a doctrine writer, deploying in 2017 to Haiti as a part of Op HAMLET for eight months, closing out the UN military mission in the country. She was posted as the OC Real Property Operations Unit (Pacific) detachment Comox in 2018 and promoted to her current rank in December 2019.
In APS 2020, she moved her family across the country one last time to Ottawa, to her current posting at ADM(Mat), working as the Infrastructure Manager for the Future Fighter Capability Project. On 24 March 2023, after 30 years and 9 months of loyal service, LCol Guerard retired from the CAF.
LCol Delta Guerard is married to Michael and has two children, William and Benjamin; since her retirement from the CAF, she has not gone too far as she has accepted a civilian position with ADM(IE), and she now enjoys spending more time with her family.
