After 24 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, LCol Francois Sauvé, CD will retire on 30 September 2019. At the request of the member, a private Depart with Dignity (DWD) ceremony will take place later this fall. Anecdotes and retirement wishes may be sent to Maj Thibaudeau at David.thibaudeau@forces.gc.ca no later than 11 October 2019. LCol François Sauvé enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1995 and was commissioned into the Canadian Military Engineers in 1999.
He served at 5e Régiment de génie de combat and 1 Engineer Support Unit as a Field Troop Commander, Specialist Engineer Team 2I/C, Force Protection Officer, Adjutant and Field and Admin Squadron Commander. He deployed once to Bosnia and twice to Afghanistan, including one tour as OC 52 Engineer Squadron in Kandahar in 2010-2011.
After his postings to 5e RGC and 1 ESU, he occupied diverse staff positions at NATO Joint Force Command Naples, Italy as the Military Assistant to the Deputy Commander, within the G3 branch and responsible for Strategic Planning at Canadian Army HQ, and most recently at CF Real Property Operations Group HQ.
LCol Sauvé holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada, as well as a Master’s in Defence Studies from the Canadian Forces College.
He leaves the Canadian Forces after 24 years of service, with no regrets, and very grateful for all the opportunities he has experienced, including meeting the wonderful Amélie Chiasson with whom they have two wonderful boys: Gabriel and Olivier.
François and the family will remain in Ottawa and he will work at Correctional Services Canada as Director, Engineering and Maintenance.
