LAC Brian Harvey Robbins (Ret'd)
-
We regret to advise of the death of Firefighter Leading Aircraftman Brian Harvey Robbins (Ret'd), a resident of the Age Care Midnapore Home in Calgary AB, on 6 March 2022 at the age of 79 years.
Brian was born in Regina SK and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in the early 1960s where he trained as a Firefighter in Camp Borden ON. His service included RCAF Station Portage la Prairie MB. Following his service, Brian began his career in the restaurant industry, starting at A&W and followed by McDonald's and Long John Silvers…to name a few… before he moved to Calgary in 1979 with St Hubert’s BBQ. During these 20 years, the family moved to many cities in Canada. Brian’s career took another shift in 1985 when he began managing service stations for the next 17 years until his retirement in 2007.
Retirement didn’t stop Brian from the need to stay busy and he started a new challenge as a school bus driver. Brian absolutely loved driving the big yellow bus and the kids loved their bus driver. He happily drove all four grandchildren on his bus at one time or another.
Brian was a runner and he participated in several marathons, including the New York City, Chicago, and Portland Marathons but his most memorable one was the 1993 Honolulu marathon. This was Brian’s first marathon and it was a huge accomplishment for him. In addition, Brian enjoyed his summers at the lake, boating and visiting with friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, 18 March 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Evan J. Strong Funeral Services (North) [3625 12 Street NE Calgary]. As an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Society. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
