    We regret to advise of the peaceful death of Joseph “Josie” Iaci in Vancouver, BC on 9 August 2009. He was born in Vancouver in 1915.

    Josie served in WW II after joining the 6th Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers in North Vancouver in June 1940 shortly before the unit left for Debert, NS. A Pioneer and a carpenter by trade, he assisted the unit with the construction of Camp Debert before deploying to England. He landed on Juno Beach in one of the later waves on D-Day. Josie served continuously with the 6th in Normandy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany until the end of the war. Josie was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 291 Richmond, BC.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be held on 14 August2009 at Holy Name Catholic Parish, 4925 Cambie Street, Vancouver, with entombment to follow at Ocean View Cemetery, South Mausoleum, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Children's Hospital or the Mount Saint Joseph's Hospital Foundation both of Vancouver. {gdNov2015kh}
