    We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Joseph Clorice “Joe” Gautreau, CD (Ret'd) of the Veterans’ Health Center in Moncton, NB on Tuesday, 1 January 2019 at age 96 years.

    Joe was born in Moncton and served in the Canadian Forces for 30 years.  Joe enlisted for WW II in 1942 and was a veteran of  1st Parachute Battalion and he was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Korean War.  During WW II he was initially stationed in Newfoundland but volunteered to be a parachutist. Joe was selected for parachute training, after successfully completing that training, he joined 1st Parachute Battalion in England. Joe parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and later participated in the Battle of the Ardennes.  For his contributions to the Battle for France, France recently awarded him the Croix de Guerre.

    After the war, Joe enlisted in the Permanent Force with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He served in Korea and at locations in Canada that included Chilliwack BC, Whitehorse YT and Camp Gagetown NB. After Joe retired in 1972 he was active with Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 6, the Airborne Regiment Association of Canada and the Korea Veterans Association of Canada.

    Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB on Friday 4 Jan 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion service will be held at 1:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sainte-Therese Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, on Saturday, 5 January at 10:30 am. Interment in Notre-Dame-du-Calvaire Cemetery in Dieppe.

    Donations to CHU Dumont Foundation “Veterans” to benefit patients of the Dr Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre would be appreciated by the family. Condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.
