    We regret to advise of the death of John Arthur “Art” Gerry on 25 January 2022 in hospital in Toronto ON at the age of 96 years.  Art was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Second World War who served in Canada, England and Northwest Europe.

    Art attended Norway Public School and Danforth Technical School in Toronto, New York State University where he received a B.Sc. in Education, and the College of Education of the University of Toronto.

    After the war, Art had industrial experience with Link-Belt, Bell Canada and Ontario Hydro before he started his teaching career at Niagara Falls Collegiate and Vocational Institute in 1957. During 1961-62, he designed the technical facilities for Niagara District Secondary School and became Technical Director of that school in 1962. Art took two years leave from NDSS (1965 to 1967) to teach engineering drawing at Dar-es-Salaam Technical College in Tanzania, East Africa. During his second year he was the Canadian team leader. Art retired from NDSS in 1985.

    During his teaching career Art was on the executive of the Ontario Technical Directors' Association for nine years and was president for 1975-76. He was an active member of St. Davids and District Lions Club in Niagara on the Lake ON until his move to Toronto in 2008 and also held membership in Royal Canadian Legion Branches 124 and 10. He lived remarkably well at home until the last two weeks of his life.
