The two heavy monuments were returned to All Sappers Memorial Park today. Commencing at 7:00 am a small group of us gathered in very cold but clear weather, waiting for the sun to clear Promontory Hill to load the monuments. Eagle West from Abbotsford arrived with their 280 ton crane and three flatbeds (@ $700.00 per hour).

Eagle West’s appraisal for the job was $8,250.00 and they reduced it to $5,000.00 because they knew Chilliwack Foundation had given us a $5K Grant for the move.

Members from 192 Construction Engineer Flight, had prepared the holes and now provided manpower to position and level and vibrate the new cement binder.

Big thanks go out to Mike Boughner whose coord of materials and knowledge kept things running smoothly.

City of Chilliwack provided us the corner space to situate the monuments and donated two flag persons, cones etc. for safety and security.

Our society is now raising money to cover the cost of the materials, gravel and 5 cu yds. of cement. We are halfway there – so if you can help…. Please make cheques payable to: “CFBCHS” and mail to:

Donations of $20 or more will receive a tax deductible receipt from CFBCHS just prior to 2015’s tax return.

The Bell Tent Monument (23,000 lbs) reminds us that the original tented camp in April 1942, was Bell Tents and the other (33,000 lbs) was to celebrate CFB Chilliwack 50 years existence here (1942 – 1992).
