Honouring Our Heritage, Strengthening Our Future
Although I was unable to attend Operation GRANITE II in person, I followed the weekend's events with tremendous pride. On behalf of the Canadian Military Engineers Association (CMEA), I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making this remarkable commemoration a success.
Operation GRANITE II brought together members of the Engineer Family from across Canada to mark the 80th anniversary of the dedication of the All Sappers Memorial in Chilliwack, a monument conceived, built, and dedicated by the CME Family to honour those who served before us. Throughout the weekend, participants renewed old friendships, shared stories, rededicated the Cenotaph, and reaffirmed our collective responsibility to preserve the heritage of the Canadian Military Engineers for future generations.
I want to offer special thanks to the dedicated volunteers whose vision and countless hours of work brought this event to life. I also wish to recognize the CMEA's representatives, Colonel (Ret'd) David Burke and Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret'd) Don Chipman, whose presence reflected the association's strong commitment to this important milestone.
The CMEA has long believed that preserving our history is about more than remembering the past. It is about strengthening the bonds that unite our community, inspiring those who serve today, and ensuring that future generations understand the remarkable legacy they inherit. Operation GRANITE II accomplished exactly that.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, supported, or helped organize this historic gathering, thank you. Your efforts ensured that the story of the "Home of the Engineers" and the All Sappers Memorial will continue to inspire Canadian Military Engineers for many years to come.
