Real Property Operations Unit (West) (RPOU-W) maintained the annual tradition to celebrated Asian Heritage Month with a series of vibrant and inclusive “Taste of Asia” events, showcasing the appreciation for individual contributions.

The celebration was themed around Indian cuisine, with catering provided by a local Indian restaurant. The event brought together employees at the HQ to enjoy a shared meal, reflect on the richness of Asian cultures, and strengthen the bonds that make RPOU-W a truly inclusive workplace.

What made this celebration especially meaningful was the collective effort and generous financial contributions from RPOU-W employees. Their shared commitment to a unified goal, fostering a respectful and welcoming environment was evident in every detail, from the food selection to the decorations and the spirit of camaraderie. In addition to honouring Asian heritage, RPOU-W used the occasion to celebrate birthdays of several team members, recognizing their individuality and reinforcing the importance in building a strong team.

A special moment during the event was the presentation of a late-arriving Army Service Certificate to Maj (Retired) Robert Machin, marking his transition to public service working with Real Property Group Evolution Team. Capt Kyle Ho was presented with a long-overdue certificate from the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering. After more than two decades of silence following experiences of racial discrimination, this moment marked the restoration of a long-denied honour. With the support of LCol Cindy Legarie and LCol Johnthan Hallett, the recognition served as a powerful reminder that CAF embraces diversity and ensures that achievements are celebrated regardless of race, gender, region, or orientation.

Capt Bruce Blanchard, recently posted to RPOU-W as Program Officer 2. With over 30 years of military service, including roles as a Construction Engineer Career Manager and the RSM, Capt Blanchard remarked: “In all my years of service, I rarely experienced a team with such a dynamic and inclusive culture. I am happy to be part of the team.”

Through shared meals, recognition of service, and inclusive leadership, the unit continues to demonstrate and celebrate to raise culture awareness.

Thanks for all those who made it possible.
