    We regret to advise of the death of Honorary Colonel Raymond Giguère, CD (Ret’d), Ing. at the Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal QC on 8 May 2022 at the age of 67. Raymond was a former Commanding Officer and Honorary Colonel of 34 Combat Engineer Regiment.

    Raymond was born in Quebec City and enlisted in the Canadian Forces in May 1974 with the university training program for Reserve Force officers. He attended Laval University in Quebec and was assigned to the 10th Field Engineer Squadron (today the 35 Combat Engineer Regiment) as a Second Lieutenant. In the Squadron, he held various positions including Recruit Course Commander, Troop Commander and Transportation Officer. Promoted to Lieutenant in 1976, Raymond continued his university studies in engineering physics and graduated from Laval as an Engineer in 1978.

    Raymond transferred to the 3rd Field Engineer Regiment (now the 34 Combat Engineer Regiment), in Westmount in 1978 and was promoted to Captain. He held the position of Operations Officer until 1982 when he was promoted to Major and appointed Commander of 4 Squadron. In 1983, Raymond was appointed Deputy Commander of the Regiment. The next year he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and commanded the Regiment from 1984 to 1988, at which time he retired from the Canadian Forces.

    Raymond was recalled to service in 1999 to become Commanding Officer of the 3rd Field Engineer Regiment for the second time (1999 - 2002) after which he retired from the Canadian Forces for a second time. Colonel Giguère was appointed Honorary Colonel of 34 Combat Engineer Regiment In 2011 and held that appointment until 2015.

    Raymond worked for various companies during his career including Spar Aerospace, Bell Canada, Hewitt Equipment Ltd, Bombardier-Transport and Bombardier-Aeronautics.  He was with Bombardier for more than 20 years and held several management positions in Customer Service, Production, Manufacturing Engineering and Project Management. He was Head of Advanced Manufacturing for Bombardier-Aeronautics. Raymond was a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec.

    Among other positions during his career, Raymond was Vice-President of the Professional Association of Engineers and Scientists of Spar, Vice-President of the Federation of Associations of Engineers and Scientists, President of the Montreal Branch of the Canadian Military Engineers Association, National President of the Canadian Military Engineers Association. In addition, depending on the opportunities, Raymond has been part of various humanitarian organizations in Canada as well as in Mexico.

    Visitation will be at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home [ 222 Autoroute 20 Pointe-Claire, Quebec ] Saturday, 21 May 2022 with the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm. On-line condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
