    We regret to advise of the death of Harold Cecil “Harry” Webster at Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home, Glace Bay, NS on 13 August 2016 at the age of 91 years.

    Harry was born in Halifax and was a veteran of the Second World War who served in Italy and in Northwest Europe.  He served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps as an orderly and later in the Royal Canadian Engineers as a mapper. .

    After the war, he relocated to Sydney, where he worked for 40 years at the Steel Plant in the print shop and warehouse. Harry was a well-known carver and once carved an eagle for President and Mrs Richard Nixon. He was active in community activities including the SPCA, the Cape Breton Tourist Association, the Breakfast Program at Cornwallis and Cusack Elementary Schools, his church and helping his neighbours. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sydney Branch #12.

    Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on 18 August from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on 19 August at 11:00 AM.  Interment will take place at a later date in Halifax. Family flowers only, please. Memorials may be made to St. George’s Loaves and Fishes or St. Theresa’s Food Bank.  {dcNov2017gd}
