    We regret to advise of the death of George Rasmus “G.R.” Clifton of Taber, AB on 28 November 2014 at the age of 91 years.

    G.R. was born in McGrath AB.  He was a veteran of the Second World War having enlisted in June 1941 at the age of eighteen.  After training in Calgary and Petawawa, he was posted to England in February 1942 with the 12th Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers.  He served through Sicily and Italy and later fought in Northwest Europe.  After the war, G. R. returned home to Magrath to farm.  He moved to Hays, AB in 1953 as part of a group of sixteen veterans who purchased land at what is now called “The Loop” and farmed there for nearly 60 years.  In 1995, G.R. received the Liberation of Holland Appreciation Medal when he returned to Holland to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the liberation of that country.  G. R was a Life Member of Legion Branch #193, in Vauxhall, AB where he was President in 1988.

    A service will be held at the Hays Cemetery on 28 November at 1:00 PM.  At G.R.’s request, relatives and friends are invited to a wake at the Hays Community Centre afterwards.  Donations may be made to the Hays Cemetery Fund,  Box 116, Hays, Alberta T0K 1B0.{dcMar2018gd}
