Spr George Henry “Wilfred” Biggs (Ret’d)

    We regret to advise of the death of Sapper George Henry “Wilfred” Biggs (Ret’d) in the New Halifax Infirmary, Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, NS on 26 February 2003 at the age of 87 years.

    Wilfred was born in Glace Bay, NS.  He was a Second World War veteran who served with the 4th Field Company Royal Canadian Engineers seeing action in the Italian Campaign and then re-deploying to join the Allied Advance during the Northwest Europe Campaign.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #162 in Lower Saskville, NS as well as a member of the Saskville Masonic Lodge 137.  He had worked at the Halifax Club in Halifax for many years until his retirement.

    Visitation will be in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax on 1 March 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00PM with a Legion service at 7:00 PM followed by a Masonic Lodge service at 7:30 PM.  A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM the following day.  Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
