After 29 years of service to the CF, within the PPCLI and the Engineer Branch my time is up, release day will be the 30 June 2011.
Well it all starts with initial enrolment Jan 1981, with basic training at CFB Cornwallis then depot training at CFB Wainwright. On completion, I was posting to CFB Calgary 1 PPCLI till release Jan 1984.
I re-enrolled in June 1985 again with 1 PPCLI and stayed till 1989 and re-mustered to the Engineers as a plumber gas fitter. Sent to CFB Chilliwack for my three’s and first posting as an Engineer July 1989 to 1 CEU CFB Winnipeg where I found the life on the road was the norm. Returned to CFB Chilliwack to do my five’s 1991 and posted July 1992 to CFB Penhold. There I went on my first UN mission to the former Yugoslavia Jan 1993 and a humanitarian mission to the hurricane devastated south Florida area 1994 I stayed at Penhold till posting to CFB Kingston Sept 1995.While there I deployed to another UN mission this time the Golan heights for a few tours, till posting to CFB Cold Lake. While there went to CFB Gagetown for my 6A’s and another extended tour to the Golan again, Cold Lake was a short posting for myself, as of spring 2003 with an IR posting to CFB Wainwright till Dec 2006 then finally posted back to Ontario to CFB Trenton. This was another short one, after bouncing around the section for awhile I was posted out to another IR posting to CFB Northbay July 2008. Here I attended my 6b crse again at CFB Gagetown and my ILQ crse at St. Jean May 2009. This turned out to be a bust and was posted back to CFB Trenton July 2009 on an IR exchange. While there I went directly to the contracts cell were i proceeded to be cubically bound at present still in same position.
Deployments; a few to Bermuda, UN Tours one to the former Yugoslavia, and a bunch to the Golan Heights.
During my time I did manage to get married 1982, and had two beautiful children, my future plans are to try an get re-educated and start a second career where still undecided
At this time, I have opted for a quiet departure in lieu of a DWD function.
Anecdotes and comments, stories etc can be forwarded to WO McCarville, 8 Wing CE Contracts Coordinator for CFS Alert/Fort Eureka for the retirement book.
