    We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer Kenneth Albert Bruce Markell, CD (Ret’d) on 21 August 2018 in Pembroke, ON at age 64 after a lengthy illness.

    Ken joined the Canadian Military Engineers when he enrolled in the Regular Force in 1978 but he joined us with earlier military experience with the Royal Canadian Army Cadets that he had joined in 1967 and with the Reserves starting in 1971.

    After completing his basic Combat Engineer training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in 1978 Ken was posted to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in Chilliwack, BC. His next posting was to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Comox, BC after which he had his first posting to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa, ON,  After his next to Germany at CFB Baden-Solligen with the Airfield Damage Repair Unit (1989 - 1993), he returned to  Canada to re-join 2 Combat Engineer Regiment. Ken served his final posting in CFB Trenton, ON where he retired in 2000. During his career, Ken deployed on United Nations peace keeping duties in the Middle East in 1974, to Cyprus (1988 -1989), the Golan Heights, Croatia (1992), Bosnia (1994) and Kosovo (1998).

    A Celebration of Life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 517, Petawawa on Thursday, 30 August 2018 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Interment to take place in the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces (Beechwood Cemetery), Ottawa on Friday, 31 August at 1:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers donations to ALS Society would be appreciated.
