    We regret to advise of the death of Gerald “Gerry” M. Howe at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on 8 June 2011 at the age of 87.

    Gerry was a WW II veteran who served in England and France with 30th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery (Conn Smythe’s "Sportsman’s Battery") before transferring to the 2nd Field Survey Company, Royal Canadian Engineers for the remainder of the war in Northwest Europe.

    After the war Gerry spent over 40 years in the Life Insurance business, 22 years in management. He was past President of Ottawa Chapter of the Chartered Life Underwriters, past Vice-President Ottawa Life Underwriters Association and past Director of the Montreal Life Underwriters Association. For many years he taught Chartered Life Underwriters courses. He also served as President and Director of The United Way of the Upper Ottawa Valley. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #72 in Pembroke.

    Visitation will take place at the Murphy Funeral Home, 296 Isabella Street Pembroke on 13 and 14 June. Members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #72 will meet at the Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m on 13 June. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on 14 June in St. Columbkilles Cathedral, Pembroke.
