    We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant Jack Barry (Ret'd) on 11 September 2014 at Markham-Stouffville Hospital, Toronto.

    Jack was a veteran of the Second World War. He enlisted in 1941 and began officer training at Officer Training centre in Brockville, ON and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was initially a member of 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Engineers serving in B Company. After leaving Canada, Jack served in Great Britain where the battalion was heavily involved in construction and defensive preparations of the Island Fortress. Later, B Company was re-organized into the 33rd Field Company as part of 2nd Canadian Army Troops in preparation for the invasion of the Continent.  After D-Day, Jack saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany where 33rd Field Company was frequently involved in Bailey Bridge construction to support the Allied advance. 

    Jack's funeral will be held at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue W., 12 September 2014. Interment in the Holy Blossom Temple section of Pardes Shalom Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Plan Canada or Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. {gdOct2015kh}
