Sgt Sylvain Martel will retire on 19 July 2015 after serving 26 + years of loyal and dedicated service to the CAF, CME Br and the NDFS. – See attached bio.
Sgt Martel joined the CAF on 09 Oct 1988 as a firefighter.
Sylvain has accepted a FR1 position with the Borden Fire Hall. Sylvain and Karen have decided to settle down in Essa, ON.

Sgt Sylvain Martel enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in Toronto, ON on 09 Oct 1988 and attended basic training, in Cornwallis, NS. He then proceeded to CFB Borden and after completing his QL 3 firefighter course on July 20th 1990, he was posted to CFB Bagotville, QC. After 7 years in Bagotville, he was posted to the HMCS Montréal in Halifax, NS. During his 3 years sailing the beautiful Atlantic Ocean he was deployed on NATO and numerous Fish Patrols. After his glorious years of sailing, Cpl Martel was posted back to 3 Wing Bagotville, QC, in 2000. Another 4 years go by and now MCpl Martel is posted to CFB North Bay, ON. His stay in North Bay was very short; MCpl Martel was posted to CFSU (Ottawa) the following year as a Fire Inspector. In 2009 MCpl Martel decided to retire from CAF and accept a clerk position in the Reserves to stay in Ottawa. After 2 ½ years as a Reservist, MCpl Martel decided to re-enroll in the Reg Force in 2011, and was then transferred to CFFCA Borden, ON, where he was promoted to Sgt in April 2012. Sylvain and Karen decided to have a brand new home built in Essa, ON. Sylvain accepted a FR1 position at the Borden Fire Hall. A departure ceremony/luncheon will be held for Sylvain at the Circle Pines Golf Course on the 10th of July at 1130 hrs. Blessings and anecdotes may be sent to Sgt Bryan Bowden at CFFCA.
