Capt Jason “Jay” Henry Joseph Penney, CD (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Captain Jason “Jay” Henry Joseph Penny, CD (Ret’d) on 17 June 2022 in Moncton NB at the age of 45 due to complications following a heart transplant.
Born in Cambridge ON, Jason enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 1994 and served the Canadian Military Engineers as a Combat Engineer and Military Engineering Officer. During his career, he served with 2 Combat Engineer Regiment and 4th Canadian Division Support Base in Petawawa ON, with 37th Canadian Brigade Group Headquarters in Moncton NB, and at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown NB.
Jason participated in two international deployments: on the Kosovo Force (KFOR) in 1999 and as Section Second-in-Command on Joint Task Force Afghanistan in Kabul Afghanistan in 2005. He took great pride in being a Combat Diver, an Airborne Paratrooper, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist as well as a Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV III) Crew Commander.
Jason retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2019 at the rank of Captain. He then followed a second career as a Surveillance Officer for the National Aerial Surveillance Program (NASP) - Atlantic Region. Although Jason was hired as a surveillance officer, he also held a private pilot's license and loved flying with the NASP crew.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre [88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900)] where the funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, 25 June at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours are Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. Face covering is recommended.
