MWO Bruce John Smith, CD (Ret’d)
-
We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Bruce John Smith, CD (Ret’d) in Medicine Hat AB on 10 April 2022, at the age of 74 years.
Bruce was born in Edmonton AB and was a proud ‘Base Brat.’ He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1967 and started what was to be a 28-year career with the Canadian Military Engineers. He completed his recruit training that year at the Canadian Forces Recruit School at Canadian Forces Base [CFB] St-Jean QC. Subsequent postings as a Construction and Maintenance Technician (Draftsman) included: CFB North Bay ON (1967-68), CFB Moose Jaw SK (1971-75), CFB Wainwright AB (1975-78), Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC (1978-82), CFB Shilo MB (1982-87) {during which time he was promoted to Master Warrant Officer in 1986}, CFB Suffield AB (1987-93) and back to CFB Wainwright, again (1993-95).
Bruce retired from the Canadian Forces in 1995. In his retirement years, Bruce spent his time woodworking, trying new recipes and he was an avid reader. He could also be found on the dance floor competing and teaching as a member of the Lone Star Dancers.
Bruce’s life will be silently remembered by family and friends without the proceedings of a formal funeral service. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
